Author Interview: Mark Everett Stone

Mark Everett Stone is one of the authors featuring in the September giveaway. Mark has written Things To Do In Denver When You're Undead.

1. What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 20 or less words, what would you say?
It’s called Things To Do In Denver When You’re Un-dead. 20 or less words? Damn…ok, just a sec…Ah, got it:  Sarcastic, funny, sad, damaged, cynicism, misogynistic, thrilling, violent, bloody, unapologetic, horrific, cheesy, action, nightmare, magic, mayhem, conspiracy, murder and heartbreak.   There you go, 19 words to describe the book. Maybe not in any coherent order, but they’ll do.

2. Do you gift books to readers for book reviews?
Sure do. Usually and ARC or a PDF file they can put on a Kindle. Everyone else: please purchase the book….gotta support myself somehow.

3. How did you come up with the cover? Who designed the cover of your book?

An artist friend of mine gave me the initial idea for the cover, a very basic outline and I then took it from there. I designed it and the cover artist at Camel Pressed did a wonderful job of pulling it all together.

4. How did you come up with the title for your book?
Well, I live in Denver and I am a fan of the Andy Garcia movie “Things to do in Denver when you’re dead.” Not too hard to swipe an idea!

5. Is there anything you would change about your book? And why?
Oh, damn, of course there is! Writers always think we can do better, a tweak here, a pull there and we’ll have a perfect work. Only thing is, there is no such thing as perfection! However, that doesn’t stop us from obsessing about it and trying our damndest to achieve it.

6. Do you prefer e-books, paperbacks, hardcovers or audiobooks?
I have fully immersed myself into the Digital Age, so I do prefer e-books. Besides, I don’t have any more room for hardbacks or paperbacks. My library is full up.

7. Are you a self-published / Indie author?
I am published by a small press publisher. Camel Press. They are the best! Catherine Treadgold, my editor, is the most profession and kind person you wish for to help bring your books to print. She’s almost as good as chocolate. Almost.

8. Have you ever read a book more than once? And if so what was it?
Yes! Lord of the Rings, about a zillion times. Along with the Odyssey, the Iliad, the collected works Larry Niven, Dave Duncan, Glen Cook, Stephen R. Donaldson, Anne McCaffrey, Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson….the list goes on and on. As you may have guessed, I read a LOT!

9. What book are you reading at the moment? And in what format?
Kings Envoy, by Cas Peace, distributed by Rhemalda Publishing. She was kind enough to send me a trade paperback ARC and I am taking notes for my review. That woman has a bucketload of talent. Can you guess that it will be a good review? Yep….good stuff.
